Tips For Coping With Infertility When It Seems Like Everyone Else Is Having Babies

If you are trying to get pregnant but have found that you are infertile, you might feel as though you are swamped with baby pictures. You might feel like everyone around you is having a baby and it can be really hard to deal with if you are feeling bad that you cannot have kids. Here are some tips for coping with infertility when it seems like everyone else is popping out babies right and left.

1. Pity Yourself, But Keep it Short

Don't force yourself to hold down your emotions and sadness about not being able to have kids all the time. Let it out by watching a sad movie, writing in a journal, or doing some other activity that lets you release the stranglehold that you have on your emotions. Feel free to literally throw yourself a pity party. However, make sure that it doesn't go on too long. Set a specific amount of time that you will allow you to pity yourself and don't go past that time. You need to be able to feel your emotions, not drown in them. You can do this every time an infertility treatment doesn't work out or every month that you get your period when you are trying for a baby.

2. Consider Getting Off of Social Media

Social media is going to be full of pictures of people with their babies, especially if you and the rest of your friend group is in your late twenties. Consider taking a break from social media so that you don't constantly have to expose yourself to the pictures of babies that you might not want to deal with. You can still use the messaging features to talk to your friends but not be surrounded by baby pictures.

3. Don't Feel Pressured to Go to Every Baby Shower

Finally, don't feel pressured to go to every baby shower that you are invited to. If you are close to the person that invited you, consider buying her something off of her registry and sending it to her as a gift. If you aren't close to her, just send a nice card with a little bit of money, or just the card itself. Baby showers can be boring and stressful if you are dealing with infertility. Do yourself a mental health favor and skip ones that don't feel that important to you. This will help you conserve your emotional energy.
